Snow White Writes: Our Top 5 Most Popular Posts Ever

Top Fairy Tale Blog Posts

Snow White Writes is officially two years old! I can’t believe it’s been that long since I started writing on here. But I’m thrilled that this blog is still a part of my life and even more grateful to my dedicated readership. A thousand thanks to all of you for reading my thoughts and creations.

I really wracked my brain about what to write to commemorate this milestone. Last year I wrote a year-one anniversary post about the ten things I learned from running a blog for a year. This year I’d like to share my top five most-read articles from Snow White Writes. A ton of new readers joined us in 2022 who might never have read these oldies but goodies. Also it might surprise you which five posts are responsible for more than half of the lifetime views on Snow White Writes.

So without further ado, here are my top five most successful posts of all time and what they’re about. Let’s start at the bottom of the list, shall we?

Top 5 Posts on Snow White Writes

#5: Was Cinderella’s Dad a Jerk?

Back when Snow White Writes first started, one of my first articles was about Cinderella’s negligent father. He’s a lesser-known side character who is not actually dead in the original fairy tale, and the various roles he plays in the different versions of Cinderella all carry interesting cultural significance. This article has seen some major interest over the course of this blog’s life. Even two years in, it’s still in the winner’s circle of most-read posts on Snow White Writes. If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend it. Read It Here

#4: The Original Sleeping Beauty: A Disturbing Tale of Rape and Infidelity

Out of my top five, this post is the youngest and most surprising member of the winner’s circle. She catapulted into favorite post status just a few months after her birth and continues to climb. I attribute its success to the sensational title (who could resist this read?). But this post also found its way onto Reddit and singlehandedly ushered in the highest traffic day ever on Snow White Writes. So thank you, Sleeping Beauty. It’s pretty obvious what this one is about, so if you’re interested in the super twisted Italian version of Sleeping Beauty, you’re welcome to it. Read It Here

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Sleeping Beauty. But when I say that the original is pretty gross and rapey, I am not kidding around.

#3: Little Red Riding Hood: A Sexy Cautionary Tale

I mean, how could ANYONE resist a title like that? This post skyrocketed to the #1 spot on the blog for almost a full year until she was unceremoniously dethroned, but she won’t be leaving the top three anytime soon. And yes, this post is a deep dive into the original French version of Little Red Riding Hood by Charles Perrault, which was definitely not about stranger danger. In fact, this fairy tale is a not-so-subtle warning for young ladies of a certain age not to give it away, so to speak. Certainly not to “wolves” with an appetite. You’ll have to read it for yourself for more detail. Read It Here

#2: Swan Lake: The Origins of My Favorite Fairy Tale

I am thrilled to pieces that this post is so successful on the site. First of all, this really is my favorite story ever, both the fairy tale and Tchaikovsky’s ballet. In this post I cover my first introduction to Swan Lake, the stage version, its alternate endings, and the Russian and German fairy tales that inspired the creators of the ballet. This one is so evocative and dark, and I love everything about it from the transformative magic to the love story. Apparently I’m not the only one because this post has slowly climbed to the top of my winners list. Read It Here

If she keeps up like this, Swan Lake will definitely be the #1 post soon. But until that day comes, our #1 supreme winner of Snow White Writes still remains . . . (drumroll please) . . .

#1: Fairy Tales with Wolves: A Falsely Maligned Villain?

This was hands down my favorite post to research and write, probably on the whole site. I’m tickled pink that this article has turned into a golden SEO success on Snow White Writes. “Fairy Tales with Wolves” was a top fairy tale search term on Google last year, so I chose to write this by design. And what I discovered was how universal wolf hatred is in literature and also completely undeserved if you know anything about these magnificent creatures. If you’re interested in famous wolf fairy tales and wolves in real life, this is the article for you. Read It Here

What does it say about my site that none of my top content is about Snow White? No worries. There’s still time to write another winner . . .
