Snow White Writes: Our Top 5 Most Popular Posts Ever

Top Fairy Tale Blog Posts

Snow White Writes is officially four years old! I can’t believe it’s been that long since I started writing on here, but I’m thrilled that this blog is still a part of my life and even more grateful to my dedicated readership. A thousand thanks to all of you for supporting my work.

Since this is a time of year for nostalgia and reflection, I’d like to share the top five most-read articles on Snow White Writes. We’ve had a ton of new readers join us this year who probably haven’t explored the archive to find these oldies but goodies. Also it might surprise you which five posts are responsible for more than half of the lifetime views on Snow White Writes.

So without further ado, here are my top five most successful posts of all time and what they’re about. Let’s start at the bottom of the list, shall we?

#5: 9 Irish Fairy Tales Filled with Magic

I admit, of all the articles in my top five, this one is the most surprising to me. I’ve written about fairy tales from all over the world, but this roundup I gathered in honor of St. Patrick’s Day has garnered more interest and more traffic than any other country. Maybe it’s because Ireland has a certain mystique to it, as does its stories. The Emerald Isle is renowned for its tales about brave heroes, deadly goddesses, mischievous faeries, and good old-fashioned Celtic superstition. If you’ve never read any Irish fairy tales, this article has some great recommendations. Read It Here

I just thought of something: what does it say about my site that none of my top content is about Snow White? No worries. There’s still time to write another winner . . .

#4: 11 Worst Tropes that I Absolutely Cannot Stand

This post about bad tropes is the newest member of the winner’s circle. It also happens to be one of my favorite posts I’ve ever written since tropes are an endlessly fascinating topic to me. I enjoy talking about good tropes just as much as I enjoy lambasting terrible ones, and nothing brings out my raging opinions faster. Apparently other people like reading about bad tropes and my opinions on them as well. If you are officially over boring Chosen One protagonists and enjoy sarcasm, this article is definitely for you. #3 Swan Lake: The Origins of My Favorite Fairy Tale

I am thrilled to pieces that this post has become so successful on the site. First of all, this really is my favorite story ever, both the fairy tale and Tchaikovsky’s ballet. In this post, I cover my first introduction to Swan Lake, the stage version, its alternate endings, and the Russian and German fairy tales that inspired the creators of the ballet. This story is so evocative and dark, and I love everything about it from the transformative magic to the love story. It seems I’m not the only one because this post has slowly but surely become one of my top contenders. Read It Here

#2: 13 Delightful Fairy Tales with Talking Animals

This article’s success I attribute entirely to SEO. When I found out that “fairy tales with talking animals” is one of the top fairy tale search terms on Google, naturally I had to write about the subject. This roundup features a diverse group of creatures from frogs and foxes to gazelles and goats. There’s a tale from India in this lineup and one from Africa too. So if you’re a fan of animals like I am, you’ll certainly find something interesting to read in this lineup. Read It Here

As successful as the talking animals have become, this article has received not even half—that’s right, half—of the traffic as the top post ever on Snow White Writes. Speaking of which, our #1 most popular post of all time still remains . . . (drumroll please) . . .

#1: The Original Sleeping Beauty: A Disturbing Tale of Rape and Infidelity

How could ANYONE resist a title like that? This post catapulted into most-read status just a couple months after her birth and continues to climb. I attribute its success to the sensational title, but the article also found its way onto Reddit and other fairy tale websites. Sleeping Beauty has singlehandedly ushered in the highest traffic day ever on Snow White Writes too. So that’s cool. It’s pretty obvious what this post is about, so if you’re interested in the super twisted Italian version of Sleeping Beauty, you’re welcome to it. Read It Here

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Sleeping Beauty. But when I say that the original is pretty gross and rapey, I am not kidding around. You should totally read about it.
